Weekly Highlights
This week we are in the process of migrating to a new version of the Help Desk. You may experience delayed response times to Support Tickets, as well as the temporary interruption of the use of the knowledge base as we transfer everything to this new system. If you have used the our Help Desk before your account has been transferred but please note… you may need to reset your password before you can log in, by clicking the Password reset link at the bottom of the log-in form on the new Help Desk page. The old Help Desk is almost 10 years old.  Due to growing problems with keeping this old system running we finally decided to upgrade. Like anything new there will be a learning curve, however it should be small as we have migrating to a new system provided by the same company – and it should look, feel, and work very similar to the old system.

The old Help Desk will automatically redirect to the new one, however we also encourage you to bookmark the address of the new Help Desk.  It is: http://tmj-software.kayako.com/

p.s.  As we normally do in this post script section, here is the text from two email we recently received from customers.  These are particularly apropos because they both contain comments about our customer service.

Thanks for your help. All is now OK. I am considering your advice regarding version 4, but at 70 years old and on a pension, money is not as available as it used to be. Also I am not sure that I will get to use the new features, especially as I have version 2 of Video Surgeon. Thanks again for the trouble you have taken on my behalf. I must add that I have been very pleasantly impressed with the attitude, quality and promptness of your support over the last nearly six years on the very few occasions that I have needed help with your software.

Thanks for the super speedy response guys. I literally asked a question before lunch, and by the time I got back everything was sorted. Amazing.

Dear Friend,

I’m sorry, but I am writing to inform you that this $7 offer I released yesterday, is going to close today at midnight (Thursday).  I am ending it much sooner than I expected because, given the volume being sold, I can’t afford to continue “giving it away” for the price of 2 Starbuck’s cups of coffee.

So yep,  this  is  pretty  much  your  last  chance  to  get  Audio Switch at  the
$7 price.

http://shopping.audio-switch.net/discount/index.html?code=1-time

At a 75% discount, this little jewel of a program is something you don’t want to miss out on.

I know as a musician that you have hundreds and perhaps thousands of audio and video files. The ability to convert among and between different formats and even strip audio from video en mas is not only useful… but a BIG times saver.

If you have ever opened and converted a pile of files to a different format, 1-by-1, you know EXACTLY how tedious this can be.

This offer is ending in less than 15 hours so  you  better  grab  it  now,  because  chances  are  you  won’t  see  it  again  at  this $7 price for  quite  some  time.

Regards,

James Todd

p.s..  Audio Switch is a Windows only product.

p.s.s.  Here are just a few of the things you can do with it.

~~> You may have a bunch of CD’s that you have ripped and want to convert songs to mp3’s (or any other main audio file format) so you can put them on your phone – Audio Switch can easily do this.

~~> You might have a Apple iPhone and are moving to a Android based phone and you want to convert all of the songs in your itunes library from m4a (typical iTunes format) to mp3’s – Audio Switch can do that.

~~> As a musician you might have a bunch of video lessons that you’d like to strip the audio from so you can load this onto your mobile device – Audio Switch can do this.

~~> You might have a bunch of songs from many disparate sources and you’d like to convert them all to a common file format – and normalize the volume – Audio Switch can do that also.

Dear Friend,

Dog Days of Summer – No Video Tip This Week

The dog days of summer are upon us.  Everyone is taking time off and trying to fit in vacations before we hit Labor Day and the kids head back to school.  We’re also trying to slow down just a bit for a couple of weeks so we are dispensing with the normal video tip – and instead providing some written comments on sound quality.

We often get Kudos from customers about the quality of the sound after key or tempo change in Song Surgeon.  We even have users tell us that the audio quality from Song Surgeon is better than some high-end audio recording and editing programs like Cubase and Sony’s Sound Forge.

However, once in a great while we’ll get a note from someone who encounters a problem with sound quality.  This recently happened and it is instructive to relay this incident to you.   This specific situation involved a special stereo file in which one channel contained only percussion and the other channel contain bass guitar. Normally most people use files that are mixed and mastered so specific instruments are not separated as they were here.

In this specific case the SS user was lower the key by 2 half steps and when he did so he wasn’t happy with the quality of bass guitar audio.  I asked him to send me this file, and I listened to it and then made the same two, 1/2 step change — and when I listened to it I heard the same somewhat muddy sound.

However, after playing with this file, I found then if I toggled the algorithm setting on Song Surgeon from P to T, and then made the same change the audio was much, much better. In fact it sounded as good as the original.

The moral of the story here is that Song Surgeon has two algorithms and NORMALLY the P should be used for small changes and T algorthim for larger changes.  However, for this file that wasn’t the case – and a couple of minutes of experimenting with the algorithm settings as well as the Formant Preservation switch in Song Surgeon uncovered the appropriate settings that resulted in the high quality audio we’ve come to expect from Song Surgeon.

Song Surgeon Mobile App: We need your help….

We are hearing from a growing number of our customers asking us if there is a mobile app available.  Previously we had attempted to develop a mobile app but abandoned this effort due to technical issues in implementing our key/tempo change technology on the Apple side.

We are considering a new effort and need your input to help guide us.  Please take a minute to answer our very brief survey.

Now Available: SlideTrax

Today we introduce our newest product, SlideTrax, to our Song Surgeon family of customers.

SlideTrax is an inexpensive software program that effortlessly allows you to create a video from your audio files. It almost completely circumvents any learning curve. All you need to be able to do is Drag and Drop an audio file, image (picture) file, and add optional text – and then click the Create button. SlideTrax will make a video file (we call this a SlideTrak) that can be uploaded to YouTube and many other video sharing websites.

YouTube, Facebook and other social media websites some of the most popular sites on the World Wide Web. Unfortunately for music lovers and musicians, these sites don’t accept audio files. For audio or music files to be uploaded to YouTube or Facebook you must first make a video that incorporates the audio.

There are many software programs available for creating videos, some are quite sophisticated, expensive, and difficult to learn. Others are less expensive and simpler, but still require a modest learning curve. But….. creating a video using SlideTrax is a dunk shot!  You can’t miss!

Grab our special introductory offer of $19.95, a 33% discount off our regular price and get started today using the link below:

p.s.   Here is another customer email which we received last week.

I like the MAC version of SS. I have to be honest and say I use it mostly to speed up, slow down or change the pitch of songs. I also like picking out parts of songs for looping and pitch changes. I use all these in order to learn songs or riffs. I haven’t had much luck with the Sniffer. I should be able to work the program better but really haven’t taken the time to learn it. Best reason for that is I don’t have the time. I do like your occassional short emails on explanations of specific features. Also, I appreciate that you have quickly and clearly answered the fee email questions I have asked in the past. All in all your programs does what I want it for and I am happy. B. Jones,

Song Surgeon Customers Making the News

Congratulations to Jodi Bird, a Song Surgeon user, who not only made the semifinals of Britian’s Got Talent – but she also had the distinction of sparring with Simon Cowell.

Her Dad wrote us and said: ” The product has been brilliant and has helped Jodi with her backing tracks and she had success on TV recently in Britain’s Got Talent”

You can see Jodi’s website at www.jodibird.co.uk.  You will find a mention of Song Surgeon under the ‘Thanks’ heading. http://www.jodibird.co.uk/thanks.html

Here is a link to a YT video of one of Jodi’s performances on that contest in which Simon questions her song selection but in the end apologizes to her and says that maybe his criticism was a bit hasty.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7fFaEsqKyM

p.s.   Here is another customer email which we received last week.

One feature of SS I like a lot is this one. I was playing along Santana’s Black magic woman and I noticed that the song wasn’t in 440. So I slighty change the pitch by -0.16 and there you go. There are several 70’s songs that appear to be slightly out of tune like Rolling’s Honky Tonk woman. Maybe is because the recorders by that time weren’t precisely working in tune. Well, that’s no problem with SS!

I also can slow down that much the song that I discovered that during the initial solo of Black magic woman, Santana strummed  a chord  upwards… That’s really amazing. And no distortion.

As a result of comments from several people we have moved the YouTube sniffer updater.  In an updated Win version which will be released later this week, the sniffer now updates only once per day, and only if you try opening the YT sniffer module.  This will minimize the distraction caused by this updating process.  The new Mac version 4 will also work the same when when it is released.  All of our products are available for download from the help desk in the Download’s Section.  You can access the help desk thru the Help Button of the Song Surgeon software.
